Alternating between a hot sauna and cold water is a routine that has been practiced in the Nordic cultures for hundreds of years. It is often citied as a significant reason why Nordic societies are one of the healthiest in the world.
Soul Adventures have teamed up with the Kishtey Cheh sauna on Port Erin beach to offer you a 2 hour Nordic Cycle experience.
The Nordic Cycle experience starts with a 30 minute breathwork and relaxation workshop on the beach led by Kate Leavey – Bergquist – Qualified Cold Water Therapy coach. You will then start your Nordic cycle of Heat – Cold – Rest – Repeat.
Once you’ve completed a few rounds of the Nordic Cycle, we’ll be offering the famous Nordic Berry Berry smoothie to make you feel extra amazing and healthy at the end of your session. The Nordic smoothie is a great example of a meal in a glass that provides a complete mix of nutrients, and supports multiple body systems.
Nordic Cycle Therapy benefits
The Nordic Cycle Therapy elevates heart rate. Adrenaline and endorphin responses, this leads to an elevated mood. Exposure to extreme heat and cold increases the production of a neurotransmitter called norepinephrine which produces a feeling of calm, happiness and wellness which supports the mitigation of mental health symptoms such as depression and anxiety.
Accelerated and Healthy Healing
The cold/hot experience drives blood flow to healing tissue increasing oxygenation and substrate delivery as well as transport of key nutrients that support the process of healing. Nutrition is a key feature of healthy healing however the nutrients need to be delivered from the gut to the area that had surgery. In the absence of robust blood flow there will be a reduced benefit to nutritional support.
Reduced swelling can be achieved by increasing circulation through both blood vessels and lymphatic channels. Lymphedema is a condition of swelling related to poor circulation through the lymphatics. Improving circulation through lymphatics and veins helps to reduce swelling.
